First Week on Meds

Update 10/18 at 9am

Ezrah has been tolerating the medications well thus far. Although, the taste is awful and the schedule is a LOT since we are adding in Probiotics with hopes to protect her gut as well as we can. It's medications/probiotics alternating at 9am, 11am, 2pm, 4pm, 7pm and 9pm. We are starting to get a routine down and we are ALMOST one week in.

(To clarify, we are doing antibiotics 3x/day and Probiotics in the interim, 2 hrs, after dosing for gut health. She is not getting continuous antibiotics 6x/day.)

We will meet with Dr. Umberhandt (Orthopedic Specialist) this Thursday (10/20.) Tony and I have a list gathered of new questions...one being the possibility of Physical Therapy. Ezzie is still struggling to walk and I can't remember the last time I've seen her walk "normally," (ie without SOME kind of limp) It's not only difficult for her, but painful. (Understandably with a mass IN your leg/bone.) But, we have concerns about the long term effects of such a severe limp. She hobbles around the house and uses crutches or the wheel chair if we venture out....which isn't often, but Ezrah IS itching to get out a bit more. (Thank you Thieves hand sanitizer!) We are just torn with how much to push/encourage, and where she may actually need to "re-learn" how. Some days when she pushes herself, she's in quite a bit of pain.

We're still trying to balance what "normal" looks like over here. Focus is hard...for all of us. I am still struggling to leave her. I went for some "self-care" on Sunday and the whole time was focused on JUST getting BACK to Ezzie. Irrational, perhaps. But, I am struggling to not have her in sight. She has not wanted to go to church. I think she's nervous about drawing attention and scared about using her crutches on gravel. (Our church meets outside at the moment in a gravel lot.)  The other kids have all been champs and very supportive. We've had to change a lot of things...less sugar, focus on Ezzie, let mom and dad meet and talk uninterrupted, stay on top of meds. The biggest/hardest disappointment has come when the doctors gave us the "no" on the kittens we were supposed to get last weekend. As most know, kittens carry various diseases/bacteria and with Ezrah already dealing with an infection, they said it was simply too risky. We know the animal-whisperer herself would have a VERY hard time not loving HARD on those kittens, and the risk of getting bitten or scratched would've been 100%. That was a hard conversation with the 3 little girls. Their poor hearts broke.

We are waiting for Infectious Disease to check-in. (Dr. Gilbert said "this week" sometime.) Hopefully we will get in soon-ish for labs. We are still in the limbo of "we THINK this is infection, but we don't really know for sure." (I hate limbo)

Thank you to those who stopped by Jamie's Dahlias for the fundraiser on our behalf. Her flowers are BEAUTIFUL and the little girls STILL think they're not real. They're practically perfect in every way. ;) Would you give her farm some lovin'??

As always, we are INCREDIBLY grateful for all the cards, donations, meals, gifts, check-ins and well-wishes.

Thanks to a GENEROUS gift, Tony and I got to go to one of our faves, STACK 571 for a burger and beer on Friday night. God hand painted the sunset sky for us and it was a nice change of scenery....for a brief time until my heart could be away no longer.... You know who you are, thank YOU. Truly.

  1. This is great news Becky- no way they can put the abx in a CADD pump for continuous infusion? Hang in there ! Prayers always your way - lots of hugs

  2. Praying for ya'll. A walker might help with the joint pain some but still give her body a chance to use her muscles. I understand joint pain. It flares too. Some days are worse.
